Williams signs pro contact

Academy defender Ashton Williams has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with Wolves.

The 17-year-old, who has represented Wales internationally at under-15, under-16 and under-17 level, has signed a deal which will keep him at the club until 2028.

Williams joined Wolves Academy from Bristol City at under-16 level and went on to represent Richard Walker’s under-18 side during the 2025/26 season, turning out 16 times in all competitions.

He scored his first goal for the under-18s in a thrilling 3-3 draw away at Liverpool in October and wore the captain’s armband in the home clash against Blackburn Rovers in February.

On the international stage, the defender has also featured for Wales throughout his youth career, most recently turning out for the under-17s in a pair of friendlies against Estonia last September.

Academy director, Jon Hunter-Barrett, was pleased to have signed Williams to his first professional deal and believes the Welsh defender has been advancing well during his time in gold and black.

Hunter-Barret said: “Ashton has earned a professional contract through his performances and development during his scholarship.

“Ashton’s a left-footed defender who is comfortable playing either as a left-sided or central centre-back and combines excellent athleticism with a real desire to improve.

“He’s developed well during his time with us and fully deserves the opportunity to continue that journey as a professional.”
