Across this season, a new Wolves Studios series ‘WW150 Icons’ will celebrate the club’s special anniversary with some of the biggest legends to pull on the old gold shirt.
As Wolves celebrate 150 years in existence, a group of legends, covering different eras, sit down to tell their unheard Old Gold stories, alongside unseen archive footage, as part of a series of in-depth Wolves Studios features.
The series begins this week with the legendary figure of Joao Moutinho, who bares all with Wolves Studios for the very first time since his exit three years ago and delves into each and every corner of his hugely successful five-year spell at Molineux.
The Molineux favourite explains how Portugal’s second most capped player of all time signs for a newly promoted side from the Championship, before going on to speak with incredible fondness of the journey which followed from that point.
The 40-year-old is the focus of the first WW150 Icons episode, with his midfield partner in crime Ruben Neves a separate instalment, and his love for the club and city is evident throughout his own in-depth reflection of another hugely successful Wolves career.
Conor Coady was the inspirational captain throughout much of Moutinho and Neves’ time at the club, and in another WW150 Icons episode he’s able to tell the story of how the club was transformed under Fosun, offering never before heard stories with typical enthusiasm.
Mick McCarthy’s WW150 Icons contribution takes supporters to a different Old Gold era, focusing on the club’s 2009 title-winning campaign, and the key to the successes either side of that historic moment under the Yorkshireman.
Elsewhere, Denis Irwin was a big influence on the club’s 2003 play-off final win in Cardiff, but his Wolves days are rarely heard until now, with the Irishman sitting down to discuss that Dave Jones promotion and achieving top flight football for his boyhood club.
Carl Ikeme, a product of the Wolves Academy, also helps form the line-up, with his episode focusing on yet another promotion of 2014, but also the human side of the goalkeeper’s career, which saw the whole club rally to support one of their own.
Episode one, celebrating Moutinho, will become available later this week – the first of a unique series to be rolled out across this special season for the Old Gold.
