Moutinho stars in first 'WW150 Icons' episode

Joao Moutinho’s legendary Wolves story is told by the man himself on the opening episode of a brand new Wolves Studios series ‘WW150 Icons’.

The Portuguese is the first of a series of Old Gold legends to sit down and provide a comprehensive reflection on his Wolves career, as part of the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

Moutinho’s unheard stories provide a compelling watch for supporters, as does previously unseen archive footage from a successful five-year spell at Molineux for the fan favourite.

The 40-year-old, who is still playing in his home nation for Braga, had a trophy-littered career prior to 2018, and now explains on WW150 Icons how Portugal’s third most capped international at the time joined a side fresh from promotion from the Championship that summer.

Throughout the half hour episode Moutinho, who was unable to say a proper goodbye to Molineux when he departed in 2023, speaks with incredible fondness of his time in the West Midlands, where he played 212 times and helped the club achieve European football.

The Portuguese explains the dynamic in the dressing room which fused such a special bond as Wolves took to the Premier League impressively, while he picked out the Manchester United FA Cup tie of 2019 and Conor Coady’s leadership for particular praise.

Words on the late Diogo Jota provide a poignant moment, while Moutinho discusses a variety of topics including rallying after Raul Jimenez’s injury, the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley and a couple of special Old Trafford strikes from the man known as ‘5ft 7” of football heaven’.

Moutinho’s love for the club’s supporters is evident throughout, as he explains their relationship, how their absence was felt during the pandemic and what it meant to be voted their Player of the Season after just one campaign at the club.

The full episode is available to watch now, while the full series of WW150 Icons, including episode with Mick McCarthy and Ruben Neves, will be released throughout the club’s 150th anniversary season.
