Underrated Gold | Lynsey Hooper

Selecting the players, games and kits from Old Gold history he deems to be the most underrated is Sky Sports broadcaster and Wolves Women advisory board member, Lynsey Hooper.

Goalkeeper | Marcus Hahnemann

Newly promoted in 2009, Hahnemann took Hennessey’s spot in goal partway through the season and played a huge part in our survival. The next season, with Wolves bottom of the league, he stopped seeing eye-to-eye with Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor and lost his place. One index ranked him among the best GK’s in the world in 2009/10 and I think he still had a lot to offer when he left.

Defender | Matt Doherty

His tireless work rate and role he played in promotions and early PL campaigns is often overlooked. He’s scored and created some great goals in his time and let’s not forget we bought him for 75k, sold him to Spurs for £15m and got him back from Atletico Madrid on a free – bargain!

Midfielder | Paul Ince

His time at Wolves often gets skipped over when looking at his career, but he played over 100 times across four years, helping us to promotion in 2003 via the play-off final. He would have stayed longer had Glenn Hoddle not resigned.

Forward | Andy Mutch

Easy, it’s got to be Mutch. Steve Bull gets all the plaudits and legendary status – as he should – but this strike partnership was formidable and Mutch doesn’t get talked about enough. 106 goals in 288 appearances are numbers most strikers would be chasing to achieve.

Manager | Kenny Jackett

He was the right man at the right time to stop the rot. His 46 per cent win rate led to us becoming League One champions and had it not been for Kenny getting us promoted, we would never have got Nuno. Eternally grateful.

Match | Cardiff 0-1 Wolves, 2018

I’ve surprised myself going with only a 1-0, even if it did include a Ruben Neves free kick, but this was all about galvanising the team. Those scenes after Cardiff missed two stoppage-time penalties had Neil Warnock refusing Nuno’s apology for not shaking hands amidst celebrations. It lit a touchpaper of us against anyone and helped us go on to have the season we did in the Premier League.

Season | 2007/08

We narrowly missed out on the play-offs, finishing seventh on goal difference, but I loved watching Ebanks-Blake this season, who joined in the January and scored 12. We only had two defeats in final 15 games and I have happy memories watching us.

Shirt | 2005/06 away

The black Le Coq Sportif ‘Chaucer’ kit. One of the most stylish away shirts we’ve had. Gutted I lost mine during one of many house moves. Wish I’d still got it.
