Senior debut

16^th September 2020 | Fluminense 1-0 Atletico Goianiense

Coming through Fluminense’s youth set-up from the age of 12, Andre made his professional debut seven years later, when he came on as a late substitute in a 1-0 home win over Atletico Goianiense in the Copa do Brasil during the 2020 season. Andre would start his first league game for his boyhood club four days later, but having picked up a yellow card, and with Fluminense finding themselves a goal down, Andre was replaced at half-time. The midfielder featured another nine times in his debut season, but his performances in his first full season earned Andre the title of the Serie A’s 2021 Best Newcomer.

4^th July 2021 | Flamengo 0-1 Fluminense

If he could have picked a better time to score his first goal for Fluminense, I don’t think Andre would have chosen anything other than an added time winner against his club’s bitter rivals. He got to experience just what that was like less than a year after making his senior bow. With the Fla-Flu derby goalless heading into the final five minutes, Andre – one of two number 35s on the pitch that day, with the other being current Wolves teammate Joao Gomes – came off the bench to settle one of the biggest rivalries in Brazilian football when he slammed the ball into the back of the net from 12 yards out.

First trophy

2^nd April 2022 | Campeonato Carioca

Andre had progressed to being one of Fluminense’s most important players as he helped his team to the final of the 2022 Campeonato Carioca – a competition for clubs based in Rio de Janeiro state. As two of the biggest teams in the region, Fluminense and Flamengo were going head-to-head once again, and it was Andre – playing all 180 minutes of the contest – and his side who came out on top over two legs. Having claimed a 2-0 win at the Maracana four days previously, a 1-1 draw back at both teams’ home stadium meant the trophy was heading into Fluminense’s cabinet.  

First South American title

4^th November 2023 | Copa Libertadores

Starring in the heart of Fluminense’s midfield throughout their Copa Libertadores – South America’s equivalent of the Champions League – campaign back in 2023, Andre guided his team through to the final having overcome tough challenges in the form of River Plate, Argentinos, Internacional and Olimpia – who Andre scored against to secured a 2-0 victory. Standing in their way in the final were Argentinian giants Boca Juniors, and with the scores tied after 90 minutes, the game went to extra time, but a 99^th minute goal from John Kennedy ensured Andre, and Fluminense, of a first ever continental title.

International debut

20^th June 2023 | Senegal 4-2 Brazil

Although he was not part of a Brazilian national side throughout his youth career, Andre first came to his country’s attention when he was included in a 55-man preliminary squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. His form at club level and his increasing importance to Fluminense saw the then-21-year-old make his international debut in a friendly defeat to Senegal in the summer of 2023. To earn the first of the 12 caps he currently owns, Andre came off the bench for the final 15 minutes in place of Lucas Paqueta, but his impact wasn’t enough to turn the scoreline in his side’s favour.
