Silva | On West Ham defeat, creating chances and being trusted

Fabio Silva believed Wolves did not deserve to leave London empty handed having lost successive Premier League games in the capital following Sunday afternoon’s defeat to West Ham United.

The forward was handed a rare start at the London Stadium in place of regular talisman Raul Jimenez, but despite his efforts, Wolves were unable to get the goal they needed to take a point following Tomas Soucek’s opener. The Portuguese felt his side did enough, but just came up short in front of goal.

On falling to the Irons

“I don’t think the team deserved this result. When you look at the game and see everyone run and every push to give their best to the team, to score goals and to help the team do what the coach wants us to do in the game.

“But I think sometimes you can make mistakes and not get punished, but when you make mistakes for a goal, it is difficult. The same with Arsenal, we were winning the game and then conceded two goals to lose.

“We had the game to win and do better, but the things didn’t come. When you look at the team, I think we have to continue to do what we’ve been doing, because we’ve done good things.”

On getting on top in the second-half

“In the first-half, I think the game was in the middle and West Ham had a couple of chances and we had one chance. Then in the second-half, I think the game was ours.

“We had a lot of chances to control the game, but we allowed them to score one goal, and afterwards we looked to score to get a draw and to win, but the game is like that.

“It’s the Premier League and the Premier League is like that.”

On making his mark in the Premier League

“It’s difficult, and I remember last year when I came here I had a lot of difficulties in this game to hold on the ball because when I played in Portugal it was difficult. But now I think the team trusts in me when I need to hold the ball up or play into space, I can fight with the centre-backs.

“The guys I played against today, are good players, Zouma plays for the French national team and has played for some very good teams, and for me it’s very good to come here and have the chance to grow up.

“I must say thank you for the coach for trusting me in this situation and I think I did good. But the task he asked me to do on the game, I tried to score, I tried to help the team with my game, and I’m very happy with that.”
