Podence on celebrating 100th Wolves game in style

Daniel Podence was pleased to mark his 100th appearance for Wolves with a point-saving equaliser at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Portuguese came off the bench at half-time at the City Ground and helped turn the tide to earn an equaliser when he chopped on to his right foot and fired into the top corner. The wide man spoke of a positive point in the fight to avoid the drop post-match, after he moved clear of Ruben Neves as the club’s top scorer.

On crucially avoiding defeat

“It was very, very frustrating because we had a lot of the ball, but they had the best chances. I was looking at the time and we had a lot of time to win this game even. We had little difficulties entering the last part of the pitch, but in the end, we have one point and are happy with that.”

On turning possession into chance

“I was thinking during the game we hadn’t shot once. I had one shot from outside of the box, unfortunately it didn’t go well, but I had in my mind that we had to shoot at goal, that’s how we score goals and it’s very important, not just passing the ball between us.

“We knew the fast players they have, we had to manage more of the ball, but of course we had to shoot on goal too to score.”

On a fiery encounter

“I really don’t know. I played against them last year in the Carabao Cup and this year the refs have been brutal in terms of decision, they’re very complicated against us, and made us feel frustrated too. We are fighting against good players and of course Morgan [Gibbs-White] and he likes to provoke our fans and that’s what we do on the pitch. It’s very difficult to explain this rivalry.”

On hitting 100 games for Wolves

“It’s very satisfying, in the best league in the world, with a huge club and very good team. We have been doing great work since I arrived, so I’m very happy with that and the goal today. We had a difficult match in front of us and we got one point in the fight against relegation.”
