Rodrigo Gomes believes Wolves’ pre-season tour of the US will allow him to embed even further into a group he already feels at home in.
The winger joined Wolves in June and turned 21 in July, so it’s been a big change for the youngster, but one he’s been enjoying in his new surroundings. In truth, he’s spent little time in Wolverhampton so far, with a camp in Marbella preceding the tour of the US, but both have been valuable for settling in.
Looking at home with his new teammates out in Miami, Gomes is enjoying every moment, holding a permanent smile across his face, which represents how he feels about his new club pretty accurately.
On settling in the US
“No jetlag for me – I slept really well at night, and I felt good. It’s going really well. It’s very hot here, the weather is different to England, but it’s really nice. The pitches are amazing and we’re improving our football and our friendships, and that’s good.
“Where we’re staying is really nice, with the beach close to the hotel. The buildings are really high and with the boats and yachts. It’s really good, the pitch, the setup. It’s really hard to train in this weather, but it’s nice.”
On visiting the US for the first time
“I’ve been really excited. It’s my first time here and in the past I’ve wanted to come here on vacation with my girlfriend, so it’s good now to be here, knowing the country and Miami, and now I’m enjoying it.”
On the matches ahead
“I’m excited to play against these teams. It will be a good challenge and that’s good because I’m excited to play in the Premier League. Matches against Premier League teams will be a good challenge.”
On building quick bonds
“It’s really good because you’re 24-7 with your teammates and it’s nice to spend time with each other. It’s important to have a family here, to help each other. If someone needs help, I can help, and if I need help, someone can help. It’s nice to know each other – it’s really important.
“So far, it’s easier for me with the Portuguese or Brazilians, but I’m improving my English and I’m starting to talk with the English people and I’m trying to improve my friendships with all the players.
“Now I practice my English every day and it’s good because in Portugal I don’t need to practice. Here, it’s difficult, it’s hard, but I need to improve my English because it’s necessary. I’m trying to improve every day.”

On feeling at home at Wolves
“I feel really comfortable. All the people are amazing, they are trying to include me in everything, so it’s amazing. I’m feeling good with the team, more confident every training session, every day. We are going to have three games and that’s important for me and the new players to bed in.”
