Johnstone | 'We have to keep going in the right direction'

Sam Johnstone says Wolves can’t overthink recent results and the table, and must remain confident that the momentum will turn.

The Old Gold were the better side for long spells at Villa Park on Saturday, but the hosts came on strong in the closing stages to ensure the winless run continues for Wolves. Johnstone had had little to do before picking the ball out of his net for the equaliser, and the change in momentum was too much for the Old Gold to handle, according to their goalkeeper.

On the group remaining positive

“We've got a great team, great bunch of players, and we've had some very difficult games. We can't get sidetracked with that, we have to keep doing what we're doing, what we want to do, and hopefully the wins start coming. We've had a tough start, and we have to keep looking forward, keep working.

“We can’t get sidetracked with the table and the results that have gone, there's a long way until the end of the season, and hopefully that starts changing soon, for ourselves, for the club and for the fans. We have to keep going in the right direction and being positive.”

On a disappointing second half

“It's tough. It was probably a game of two halves a little bit. We've done so well going a goal up, so to lose it towards the end is obviously tough for us as a team and staff. It's always going to be difficult, as you've seen with Villa over the last few weeks, scoring late goals coming from behind. We knew it was going to get tough and we couldn’t keep in the game.”

On the message at the break

“We knew it was never going to be easy, you’re in the Premier League. We're playing against Villa at Villa Park, and we said at half-time it was going to be tough. But no matter how much brace yourself for it, once it starts, the waves start coming, and they score a goal that turns things, and we struggled a little bit then.”

On Mosquera’s injury

“It's never good to see a teammate get stretchered off. Hopefully it precaution, and it's not too bad. But I'm not too sure what the situation is.”
