Kalajdzic nets in training game

The returning Sasa Kalajdzic was on target for Wolves, who lost 2-1 to CD Santa Clara in a behind-closed-doors pre-season training game of two 35-minute halves out in the Algarve.

Wolves named almost entirely different elevens for each half, providing minutes to the majority of the squad, and Goncalo Guedes twice came close early on, before Kalajdzic pounced on an error and showed composure to tuck home at the near post after more than a year out injured.

Tawanda Chirewa twice threatened to double the lead, testing the goalkeeper after good work by Joao Gomes and heading a Ki-Jana Hoever cross wide before Santa Clara levelled on the stroke of half-time.

Soon after the break the Portuguese side took the lead but Fer Lopez, receiving his first match action for the club, looked lively and shot wide from the edge of the box when looking for a response.

Wolves came on strong late on and Lopez set up Jorgen Strand Larsen who struck the crossbar, before the former Celta Vigo duo linked up at the death once more, but the striker could only fire into the side netting.
