Toti | 'Everybody was fighting for a good result'

Toti says Vitor Pereira and the Wolves players are focusing on the positive things from their display against Manchester City on Saturday evening, despite the defeat.

The defender, who was revealed as the new club captain pre-match, saw City clinically punish any mistakes the Old Gold made, while at the other end his side’s finishing let them down in the 4-0 loss.

However, Toti highlighted the positives in his post-match interview, and says the group will get to work on improving their mistakes ahead of a return to action at Bournemouth next weekend.

On a tough one to take

“We started very well the game, and created chances to score, not just the first half, but the second half as well, and we know that against this type of team, these types of moments are crucial.

“If they go there and they have a chance like they did, they’re not going to miss. However, we start already thinking about the next one, next weekend, take the good things and improve other elements of the game.”

On committing sloppy mistakes

“For sure, that’s one of the things [to look at]. We need to watch the video during the week, look at what we did wrong, but for sure we need to improve. This was just the first game of the Premier League, we still have a lot to improve and a lot to show.”

On chasing the game

“It's not easy. If you suffer one goal against this team, it’s hard to come back, especially when you suffer two goals in a very short time. It's not easy.

“We knew we had to go to half-time, take a breath in the dressing room and come back stronger in the second half. I think we did that. We had other chances to score, but we didn't score and at the end of the game they had two more goals, and it killed us.”

On Pereira’s message

“He said positive things. Of course, after a tough defeat, sometimes it’s hard to speak. He took the good things from this game, because everybody was fighting for a good result, and we need to go with this type of attitude for the next game.”
