Santiago Bueno says the Wolves players are under no allusions around their current situation in the Premier League, but insists the group is on the right track to recover from a slow start.
The Old Gold are still without a Premier League win, but the shoots of recovery were clear in the draws – albeit games which could have been wins – against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Bueno’s newly formed defensive partnership with Ladislav Krejci has been key to that turnaround in results, and ahead of an important trip to Sunderland on Saturday the defender, who captained Uruguay recently, placed added importance on getting that first Premier League win.
On getting back to work
“All the players arrived on Thursday from the international break, so we're preparing for Saturday's match in good spirits. We know that in the Premier League all the opponents are very strong, there are no easy matches, but we have to approach it very seriously, go for the three points, and then do the same at home to Burnley.
“These are two matches that we have to approach very well because we need to get three points, and now we have a big challenge on Saturday. It's a very important match for us.
“The last two or three matches the team has changed its image a bit. The win slipped away from us in the last minutes, but I think that by continuing on this path positive results will come and the victory that we have been wanting for a long time.”

On the Premier League ever evolving
“Every season, especially on a personal level since I've been here, there's a higher level in the Premier League. The teams that come up from the Championship are at a very good level, they're very competitive, very strong. Sunderland had a good start to the season and got a lot of points. The level in the Premier League is getting better, more competitive.
“I think this match is a great test for us to get three points, which is what we are looking for, because the last few games we have had positive results. We know what a big stadium it is, with good fans, we know the difficulties they bring, but we are prepared. We showed against Tottenham, for example, that away from home we can play a great match.”
On turning results around
“We haven't started well. It's clear from the standings, we're in last place and we're aware of where we are. This club deserves to be much higher and we do too because of the day-to-day work we do. We know the level of the players, the coaching staff, and everyone, so we have to start adding three points now and put ourselves in a position where we deserve to be.”
On building a partnership with Krejci
“We feel very, very good playing together. I went through Girona, then I came here, then he went to Girona, but we'd never played together. We didn't actually know each other until he came here, but I think we had a bit of a connection, and we understand each other on the pitch, as well as the rest of the centre backs. I think the last few games have been really good, showing this connection that we have together.
“We really got to know each other here, and he's an incredible person who works every day as if it were his last. I'm working very well, just like the whole squad, we have a good working group, and we have felt comfortable these last few games playing together.
“There is a very good level of internal competition and I think that makes us all better. The most important thing at this moment is to get three points and get out of the relegation zone.”
