Strand Larsen | 'We deserved more'

Jorgen Strand Larsen felt Wolves deserved more from their visit to Villa Park on Sunday and lamented the small margins which just seem to be going against the luckless Old Gold right now.

The striker was denied his fourth goal of the season when Jhon Arias was adjudged to have been in an offside position when the Norwegian turned home Jackson Tchatchoua’s cross 16 minutes into the contest which was ultimately decided by Boubacar Kamara’s second-half bullet.

After also being denied by Emi Martinez after the break, and having a tap in at the far post taken off his boot by Pau Torres, Strand Larsen is confident the luck will begin to turn in his side’s favour as they continue to improve under Rob Edwards.

On defeat at Villa Park

“First of all, I’m really disappointed because today we deserved more. In the last two games, I think we played two really good first halves, and we just can’t get to the end of it. That’s what’s lacking at the moment.

“Today, I deserved a goal, the team deserved a goal, but the quality from them stops us. We’re often a bit lucky, because when the goal goes in, we’re just fraction offside, and it’s just really annoying. I’m just lost for words because I feel like we did a really good game, maybe the best of the season, until they scored.

“Personally, for myself as well, I feel better at the moment and it’s probably the first time I’ve been feeling fresh again since my injury, so it’s just a big hit for us to take there.”

On deserving more from the game

“Rob and the staff have been excellent. They’ve come in with energy and we conceded a screamer from outside the box, which is not anyone’s fault. Obviously, we could have tried to be quicker out to them, but that’s the fine margins we’re not having at the moment.

“We also got a few big chances, Yerson hit the crossbar, me in the second half when Torres just touches it before I can tap it in, so we’re just really unlucky and everything just seems to be going against us at the moment.

“But obviously luck will come when you play good and hopefully now it will turn a bit for us, because I think the last two games have been really positive.”

On small margins going against Wolves

“We definitely showed up today. We were the better team for most of the game, and we dominated the first half, and we definitely deserve to lead. But things are going a little bit against us now.

“I‘m not too sure about the goal as I haven’t seen it back, but it looks like sometimes they give it offside, sometimes not, when someone’s in front of the goalie, but maybe it was clear. But that’s where we’re at right now and we just need to keep on going.

“But I can promise that the performances like this will keep on coming, and we just have to believe in ourselves. Thankfully, the season is long.”

On the impact Edwards is having

“Rob and his staff have come in with a lot of energy and we’ve responded well to them, but it’s a tough, tough situation, it’s not an easy situation to be in, and it affects all our lives.

“Once again we’ve gone out there and we showed spirit, but yet again, we end up with zero points. Taking that back home, it’s not easy, but we’re big lads, and we’re trying our best.

“I just want the whole club and the whole fanbase to just keep believing because I think something good will come in the end with this.”
