Andre | 'I’m really enjoying my time at Wolves'

Andre described Rob Edwards as “a top gaffer and a top person” when conducting his first interview in English at Compton Park this week.

The Brazilian was previewing Friday’s trip to West Ham United – the Old Gold’s first match in 25 days – and was doing so refreshed following a family holiday and time for personal reflection during a rare quiet period in a Premier League season.

A consistent performer in Edwards’ midfield, Andre has been instrumental in the Old Gold’s upturn in results, even bagging the winner with his first Wolves goal against Liverpool, and now he’s focused on leaving everything out there during the final seven matches of the season.

On Rob Edwards’ impact

“He’s a top person, firstly. When he came I was in Brazil as my son was not well, so he sent me a message and this was important. First, you need to be a good person, then be good at work.

“On the pitch he gives me a lot of confidence to play. He says, ‘You are a top player’ so every day we fight, fight, fight. So, I’m very happy working with him, he’s a top gaffer and a top person, and I want to help him a lot. I’ll give all of my life inside the pitch to help him.

“I’m really enjoying my time here at Wolves, I’m enjoying everyone around the club, so it’s good to give back to those who support me.”

On his winner against Liverpool

“My first goal. In that moment I was very tired, so after I scored I needed to go down. The most important was the win, it was a very important game.

“First, I need to help the defenders and protect my teammates. I don’t think too much about finishing the play, I think first about defending. Everyone said to me I need to shoot more, so now I’ll try to shoot more.”

On the period without a game

“During the break I stayed with my family and kids, we went to Iceland and I enjoyed it a lot. I missed England when I was in Iceland because it was -20, it was so cold, but it’s a beautiful country. I went to the glaciers and on a snowmobile on the ice, then we went to the Blue Lagoon. Next, I want to go to the USA because I like the sports there. I like baseball, American football, ice hockey, so one day I want to go there.”

On a challenging season

“It’s been a tough season. In this moment it’s difficult to speak, now we have to keep believing and playing. We have good games left and in football everything is possible. Keep believing, keep fighting, keeping trying to win the last games.

“We won against Villa and Liverpool, so everything is possible. Against West Ham, we won the first game. We need to think game to game, and have confidence to play, confidence to defend – play together and fight.

On playing computer games

“I like playing in my free time. I like to play some games – Warzone or FIFA, and I like the contact with the fans. The Wolves fans every time are asking me questions. I play and talk, so it’s a good time. The season is a long season, and I’ve played football since five, so outside of the pitch I try to think of other things.

“My kids are in Brazil and my family is there, so I have time to play, but when they come back I won’t have time. On FIFA I have Pele on my team, but I am the captain. I have Marcelo, Yashin, Marquinhos.”
