Dan Bentley has completed a permanent move to Coventry City, ending his three-and-a-half year Wolves career.
The goalkeeper arrived at Molineux in January 2023 and, although primarily serving as an understudy, went on to play 17 times for the first-team and brought leadership to the dressing room while at the club.
Having joined from Bristol City under Julen Lopetegui, Bentley was handed his debut by the Spaniard at Old Trafford in the spring of 2023, before making his Molineux bow the following weekend against Everton, as the Old Gold comfortably survived relegation.
Used regularly during cup competitions under Gary O’Neil, but it was for Vitor Pereira the now 33-year-old enjoyed his best afternoon as a Wolves player, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win at Manchester United in April 2025.
Having served as the Old Gold’s goalkeeper during pre-season, Bentley started the opening two games of the season against Port Vale – where he saved a penalty – and Blackburn Rovers but now moves on to pastures new.
Technical director Matt Jackson said: “Dan’s been a top class professional. It’s not easy being a goalkeeper that's not a defined number one, it’s a tough role, but his leadership in the dressing room, personality around Compton and professionalism on the pitch were never in question, and he leaves with our very best wishes.
“He’s been really good in a variety of ways, sometimes through responsibilities in other roles which people would never know about. He was always a voice and someone you can lean on for an opinion or an honest assessment of where the dressing room is at.
“We already have two high-level goalkeepers, with huge amounts of experience for us and elsewhere, who are ready to take the spot Dan has been occupying this summer whilst Jose was at the World Cup and Sam was rehabbing after surgery.
“He’ll be a loss for us, but it's a great opportunity for him, and he'll always be a friend of the club. Sometimes a transfer is right for all parties, and this feels like one of those.”
