Ladislav Krejci was relieved Wolves were able to take a point from their Championship draw away to Birmingham City after the defence were put under a lot of pressure during the second half.
The Czech defender was back in Cesar Peixoto’s line-up to make his first start of the season at St Andrew’s and marked his return with a goal, as his bullet header to put Wolves 2-1 up with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
But after being twice pegged back by the hosts, Krejci felt his side did well to head back across the West Midlands with a point after standing up strong to a barrage of Birmingham attacks.
On leaving Birmingham with a point
“On the one side, I’m happy that I finally got to play and play a full 90 minutes, so I’m happy for this, but I’m not happy with the result.
“We struggled a bit in the second half, but we need to take the good things from it and use them in the other games. We know how this season is long, so we’ve got to keep going.”
On missing out on victory
“I think the guys who have already played in this league will tell you more about it, but I’ve just always heard and also seen that the results are like this – it’s up and down.
“I don’t have too much experience with it, but you can see that from the beginning of the game we kept the ball quite well and had some domination, but in the second half it was only long balls.
“We tried to win the first contact and the second duels, but it wasn’t on our side. It was more on them, and they took the game. From the counters, we don’t have a lot of success, so this is how it goes, up and down.”
On defending as a team
“There was some fantastic defending, bravery and everyone stuck together, so it was good that in the second half we didn’t concede after all that pressure.
“But we are the team who want to dominate the game and be at the top of the league, so we need to take from this that we need to be calmer on the ball after the second duels, keep the ball and dictate the game.”

On scoring on his return
“It was very nice. It’s something that I’m trying to do all the time and why I love football, so I’m happy for this moment.
“It’s very important for me because a lot of people said a lot of things. Not everything was good, but there was also something. As a player, as a professional, you have to take it somehow and work, even if it’s not true.
“But we are footballers, we need to solve it. The only thing I want to say to the fans is thanks for the support from all of us. I will show them on the pitch that it meant a lot for me to reach our dreams, and I will be first in the line to help out.”
On games coming thick and fast
“It was hard, it was tough, but it was something that I needed and I need to feel better and better. The first 15 minutes and the last 20 minutes weren’t good for me, but it’s normal. This is also what I need to think about and it will be better and better.
“It’s important to rest a bit because of the games we have coming up. We know we don’t have time to recover, so we need to use this week as much as possible before we go again.”
