While Jose Sa was pleased to extend his Wolves stay with a new contract on Friday, the goalkeeper was disappointed not to celebrate with a win come the weekend.
The goalkeeper has played in his fair share of derbies in a Wolves shirt, against West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa, but Sunday was his first experience of a Birmingham City clash, and he enjoyed the occasion, despite having to settle for a point.
It ended a positive week for the Portuguese however, as he’s now able to fully focus on the challenge ahead this season, knowing his future is secure at Molineux.
On extending his Wolves stay
“I was pleased to sign the new contract. I know the area, I know the club, I know the fans and I have a lot of love for them. We knew how important Sunday was to the fans and we wanted the win but unfortunately a draw almost feels like we lost. But at least we got one point and keep fighting for our target.
“We are a few weeks into the season and are understanding how the coach wants us to play. We are getting there and aiming to follow the plan to make sure we get results.”
On the need to improve defensively
“We need to start being more compact at the back and not conceding as many goals because we are scoring a lot but conceding too many. In this moment I think it is important that we start to become more compact and start picking up clean sheets which will help us gain confidence as we move forward.”
On enjoying the derby atmosphere
“It’s normal that when you play local derbies the fans will shot to the opposition goalkeeper and the players. That doesn’t bother me, I just have fun with them and keep playing. I enjoy these games.”

On having Krejci back
“We have Krejci and we have Toti, we have a lot of defenders with quality and I am happy to play with any of the defenders in front of me. We have built a good squad, and I think it is a squad that can fight for what we really want, to be promoted. So now it is time to work with what we have and work ahead to go for it.”
