Internationals | Wolves stars set for extended September/October break

In a change to the FIFA calendar for this season, the two-week September and October breaks have been merged into one extended three-week break with Wolves’ European and North American call-ups preparing for four matches during this period.

Among the games taking place this international break are UEFA and CONCACAF Nations League ties, Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches, as well as a few friendlies.

One of the Wolves players set for four matches over the next few weeks is Jordan James, with the summer signing back in the Wales squad having missed the last international break due to injury. Wales’s Nations League games see them face a Portugal side which haven't called up a Wolves player for the first time since 2018 and Denmark away before taking on Norway and Denmark at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Ladislav Krejci has also departed for UEFA Nations League action with Czech Republic, and the defender is set to captain his country once again in matches against Croatia and Spain as well as a double-header with England – the second being at Wembley Stadium on 6^th October.

In CONCACAF Nations League action over the coming weeks is Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, who has returned to the pitch with the Old Gold following injury during the last week and now heads with Haiti to face Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic and two ties with Costa Rica.

Nasser Djiga has been called up by Burkina Faso – although fellow countryman Bertrand Traore has missed out on selection – for their AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Central African Republic, as well as a friendly away in Argentina.

Marshall Munetsi and Tawanda Chirewa are both with Zimbabwe for their AFCON matches against Sierra Leone and DR Congo, while Ghislain Konan and Ivory Coast play Ghana and Somalia in AFCON qualification, as well as a friendly against Jackson Tchatchoua’s Cameroon.

Having captained his country last time out, Tchatchoua is now also set for qualification matches against Comoros – who have Rafiki Said missing out on a call-up due to his injury – and Congo.

Fer Lopez and Mateus Mane are in junior international duty during the September/October break, with Lopez being called up by Spain under-21s and Mane in the Portugal under-20 squad.

Going into the break as Wolves’ top scorer, Lopez will be hoping to add to his impressive start to the season as Spain take on Finland, San Marino and Romania in a trio of UEFA Euro U21 qualifiers. Mane and Portugal face Poland, Switzerland and Czechia in the UEFA Elite League.
