Nasser Djiga’s impressive performances across the month of September saw him voted the club’s SUDU Player of the Month by supporters.
The 23-year-old is enjoying his first run of regular football in old gold and caught the eye in the heart of the defence for his solid performances during the month’s five outings.
The Burkina Faso international started every Championship match, alongside either Toti or Ladislav Krejci, and next to the latter helped the Old Gold to a first league clean sheet of the season at Sheffield United, which proved crucial in the 1-0 win.
Djiga was also excellent with Toti in the Black Country derby win over West Bromwich Albion, which also resulted in a clean sheet and 1-0 success.
Having returned from international duty earlier this week, Djiga received his award at Compton Park ahead of the return to Championship action at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
On winning the award, Djiga said: “Thank you to the fans for the award and I will always try to make them happy. I’m very happy to receive this award, it’s for the team, but for me it’s a pleasure to win. It’s important that, if you get a chance to play, you give 100 per cent for the team and the fans, which is an honour.
“I want more games and more wins because it’s important – we have one goal, to be back in the Premier League. Saturday is a big game, they want to be back in the Premier League also, so it’s going to be a good fight, but I believe we’re going to win.”
