Bueno | 'It was a proud moment'

Hugo Bueno admitted reaching 100 appearances for the club was a moment of immense pride after bringing up the milestone in gold and black against Watford at the weekend.

Having arrived at Compton Park from Spain as a teenager, the 24-year-old has progressed through the academy ranks to establish himself as a first-team regular, with his century of appearances marking the latest landmark in a Wolves career which now spans almost a decade.

As the left-back prepares weekend’s Championship clash with Cardiff City at Molineux, Bueno has reflected on his journey in gold and black and explained why his devotion for the club makes him even more determined to help Wolves back to the Premier League as quickly as possible.

On reaching 100 Wolves appearances last weekend

“It was a proud moment for me and my family. I arrived here really young and reaching the first team, then playing quite a lot of years here, is always something special.

“It was difficult to think about something like that when I first came here. I wasn’t sure about a lot of things, and there were so many changes, but in the end you get through everything.

“This club helped me develop as a player and as a person. It was brilliant from day one and I’ve worked my way through the academy into the first-team and now to 100 senior appearances for the club.

“It was a massive moment for me, it’s something really special and I’m so happy.”

On his favourite Wolves moments

“One really special moment was my first start. I remember that game as the starting point, the moment when I said, ‘Okay, I've made it and I think I can be successful in this team’.

“That's the one I always keep with me as a special memory.”

On fighting for promotion

“It drives me every day. It would be something so special to get this club back where it belongs.

“For me, this club has to be in the Premier League. But we have to take it day by day, match by match.

“The Championship is a really long season, but we’re preparing ourselves to do everything possible and give our all. Whatever happens will happen, but we’re going to give everything.”

On adapting to the Championship

“It’s a totally different league from the Premier League and we’re trying to adjust to it because there are things we have to change.

“At the moment it’s been good, but I think we can do much better. We’re pushing ourselves to do that. Personally, it’s a different league that asks different things from you, and you just have to get through it and adapt.

“We're trying to be solid and compact because if you keep a clean sheet you’re going to get points. Then it’s about improving that final part of the game and taking the chances we create.

“We have the quality in the team to do better and score more goals, and we’re going to do it. It’s part of the process. Everything can’t be perfect from day one. We’re developing, getting to know each other better, and I think we’re going to do very well.”

On facing Cardiff at Molineux this weekend

“I’m very confident. We have to play like we did in the first half of the last game. We have to be the dominant team.

“Everyone knows we have a lot of quality and that’s why teams try to make games more physical, but we have to be ready for that.

“Cardiff are a really good team. In this league any team can beat you, whether you’re at home or away. We know that and we just have to be ready and be 100 per cent prepared for everything.”
