U21 Report | Wolves U21 4-3 Leicester City U21

Wolves 4 (Holman 10’, Olagunju 73, Sutherland 79, Angel 90') Leicester City 3 (Marçal 33’, Richards 51, Evans 53’)

Wolves under-21s fought from behind to earn three points in stunning fashion against Leicester City at the Aggborough Stadium on Friday evening.

In a game which had it all, Wolves’ dedication shone through as James Collins’ side claimed their first win in six games from 3-1 down.

Fletcher Holman converted his chance in the tenth minute to give Wolves the lead before Wanya Marçal’s long-range effort got Leicester City level.

Quickfire goals from Amani Richards and Jake Evans gave the Foxes a comfortable lead, but goals from Saheed Olagunju, Ethan Sutherland and a last-minute strike from Dani Angel completed a fantastic comeback.

Wolves opened the scoring in the early exchanges when Holman stretched to make the most out of a difficult opportunity, finding the top corner from close range after Alfie White's lofted delivery.

Despite the Old Gold having the advantage, the visitors began to gain momentum midway through the first half. Richards was the outlet in majority of Leicester’s attacks and put Lewys Benjamin to work with his two key chances, but the Wolves number one stood strong.

After Jake Evans’ strike narrowly avoided the target, Marçal’s audacious effort rifled into the top corner to level the game.

Half-time | Wolves 1-1 Leicester City

Five minutes into the second half, Richards was pivotal in Leicester gaining the lead for first time in the fixture.

Firstly, Richards tapped home from close range and moments later the attacker turned provider when he assisted Evans’ curled strike – which created an uphill task for the young Wolves.

Olagunju sparked the remarkable comeback in the 73rd minute when the defender fired his effort into the roof of the net from point-blank range.

Six minutes later, Sutherland’s clinical finish through the legs of Stevie Bausor got Wolves back on level terms with a short amount of time remaining in the game.

Remarkably, from a two-goal deficit, substitute Angel found himself in the perfect position to pick up the pieces after a scramble in the box.

The Spaniard made no mistake, unleashing a powerful effort past the rooted Bausor as Leicester failed to clear a free-kick from Sutherland deep into the area.

The scoreline has repeated itself against Leicester City for several years - firstly in 2003, secondly in 2019 and now at the Aggborough Stadium on Friday evening.
