Wolves Women’s Charlotte Greengrass hailed her side’s victory against Burnley Women as a ‘battling Wolves performance’.
Wolves moved level on points with league leaders Nottingham Forest after a 2-1 win over Burnley at the SEAH Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Greengrass bagged a brace as she helped her side overcome the Clarets sat in fourth spot. The forward touched on the performance, the golden boot race with teammate Amber Hughes, the title race, and preparing for Halifax in two weeks.
On the performance
“I think it was a contrasting performance to last week, we probably didn't have as much of the ball, but I think we've shown a really battling Wolves performance and I think we really dug in.
“We had moments in the game where we had a lot of the ball, and some moments without, but I think in every aspect of the game we dominated our battles and that's what we said we had to do going into the week, that we needed to make sure that we were well on it because they were a really great side.
“They’re well up there and they've got something to fight for just like we have. I think it was an all-round Wolves performance today.”
On the golden boot
“I think me and Amber joke about it, but as long as one of us wins it I’m happy because I think it’s reflective of the team and how good we have been as a team.
“I can't get those goals without the girls behind and around me, everyone is chipping in with goals from everywhere. Against West Brom last week there were five different goalscorers.
“I love hitting the back of the net, and to get the win today was a really great feeling, I’m just buzzing with confidence and I think that shows in my performances.
“The golden boot would be lovely but as long as we are winning and pushing for whatever we can, then I'm happy.”
On the title race
“I think we'll always believe, we've put in a performance today that shows why we're up there. If you look at the teams in the league, and the money in the league, it's hard to compete, but I think we're definitely competing.
“It shows how special the club is. I came here because it's such a special club. I think we'll always believe and we'll carry on fighting right until the end just like we have done all season. The belief is there.”
On preparing for Halifax
“I think we have a friendly next week so that will help keep momentum after we've put in a few really good performances, a variety of performances that have shown our character. We played well on and off the ball, I thought our defending in the box today was unreal, the girls were so brilliant at the back.
“We’ll prepare and get back on the grass, it will be a difficult test and a difficult game away from home but it will be a great test.”
