Dan McNamara highlighted the importance of his side securing the victory as Wolves Women defeated Sporting Khalsa 3-0 in the FA WNL.
McNamara mentioned the performance and importance of winning when not at your best, as well as the new signings Casey Howe and Tammi George and his hope for no more disruptions in the second half of the season.
On the performance in some horrendous conditions
“It's horrific out there. Snow, sleet and rain. We've been longing for a league game for a long time, and we probably knew tonight wouldn't be the finest performance. The girls looked a little bit rusty, looked a little bit off it.
“This is always a tough place to come. They defend the pitch really well, and we struggled in moments to have that quality to break them down.
“But in the end, we got there. It's a clean sheet, three goals, and three points, and we'll take it and move on to Sunday.”
On how pleasing it is to win when not at your best
“I challenged the girls in the changing room beforehand. I said, look, we haven't played for three weeks. We've had two games in the last seven weeks. The weather hasn't been kind to us at all.
“As long as we got the win today, that was all that really mattered. I think towards the end of the game, we created two or three more opportunities to score goals, which we have to be scoring.
“I think that was the disappointing side of it, but I can’t have many complaints for the amount of time the girls have been laid off. They’ve come out and put on a convincing three-nil performance.
“I thought we dominated large parts of the game. Alex Brooks made one outstanding save in the second half. And there are some real positives in there. I thought some of the passages of play were excellent.”
On the performances of Casey Howe and Tammi George
“I thought we'd seen a very lively debutant in Casey [Howe]. I thought she was excellent. [She] assisted with her first touch, but you can see her quality, you can see she's got a little bit of something, and we look forward to bringing more of that out.
“I mean [with] Tammi, I don't really class that as a debut. It's like she's never been away. She’s fit right back in, and all the girls love her, and the staff love her. We’re seeing her back out on the pitch enjoying her football, and that's a credit to her.
“She’s been away and tried something, and now she's back with us to use all those experiences to try and help us with what we want to achieve. She was what you'd expect from Tammi.”
On the importance of having no more disruptions
“That's certainly what we need. We need to find that consistency again. We've missed not having games of football, and ultimately, we want to get points on the board.
“There's been some interesting scores again tonight. We’ve just got to keep plugging away. We want to make sure we're still in that first or second for the rest of the season.
“Ultimately, we've got our ambition for the season, and we want to keep plugging away. Sunday now becomes the biggest game of the season, and hope to the, to the gods that it stays kind to us.”
