Middlesbrough 0 Wolves 3 (Own Goal 19, Worsey 24, George 86)
Wolves Women secured a hard-fought 3-0 win over Middlesbrough Women in the FAWNL as they closed the gap to leaders Burnley to one point.
An own goal and a Louanne Worsey header were followed by a Tammi George strike to seal the points for the Old Gold in their furthest away trip of the season.
Little separated the two teams on Teesside as Wolves continued their fine league form at the start of 2026.
The first chance of the game fell to Worsey, who diverted a superb Becky Anderosn cross just over Borthwick’s goal.
Wolves took the lead on the stroke of the 20th minute as a Middlesbrough defender diverted a Beth Roberts cross past Borthwick.
Worsey found herself on the scoresheet just five minutes later as Abbi Jenner’s corner was flicked on by Tammi George, before the forward nodded home despite the best efforts of Borthwick, whose clawed save was not enough to keep the ball from crossing the line.
Alex Brooks was called into action for the visitors after Ferguson drilled a powerful 25-yard effort towards goal, but the Old Gold goalkeeper got down well to prevent the hosts from scoring.
As both teams wrestled for possession, Wolves almost made it three as Jenner tried her luck from a free kick just inside the Boro half. However, the ball sailed just inches above the crossbar, keeping the score level at the interval

The opening stages of the second half followed the same pattern as the first. Both sides jostled for control of the ball, but ultimately, cancelled each other out.
Wolves’ first chance fell to Charlotte Greengrass. The forward rattled the crossbar with a looping header from inside the box, before any chance of following up the effort was cleared by the Boro defence.
The hosts tested Brooks in the 64th minute, but Maxwell’s ranged shot was comfortably collected by the Wolves goalkeeper.
Few chances followed for either side, but the visitors were able to find a third goal. Amber Hughes played Tammi George in behind, and the new signing dinked Borthwick to claim her first goal since returning to the club.
The game petered out from then on as Wolves secured the points on Teesside.
