Women's Report | Burnley 1-0 Wolves

Burnley 1 (Chadwick 6’) Wolves 0

Wolves Women faced their first league defeat of the season after a controversial 1-0 loss against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon.

Charlie Chadwick’s second half strike proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Burnley took an early lead when Chadwick slotted her effort past Alex Brooks.

Wolves were forced to be patient in their build-up, often going the long ball route and searching for Chloe Willams and Louanne Worsey as the output of attack.

The hosts looked to slow the game down with heavy amounts of possession of the ball, which created an uphill task for Wolves, as Dan McNamara’s side searched for a route back into the top-of-the-table clash.

Despite the scoreline being against them, Wolves still proved to be a severe threat to the Burnley defence but failed to find the finishing touch they needed before the break.

Half-time | Burnley 1-0 Wolves

The second period began with Old Gold moving the ball at an increased intensity, which caused more problems for the hosts.

Wolves did eventually find the net through Georgia Marshall, but the goal was controversially ruled out for a foul in the build-up, despite replays showing Charlotte Greengrass was the player fouled.

Momentum was in favour of McNamara’s side and Beth Merrick’s effort narrowly skimmed the crossbar while frustration grew for Wolves.

Despite their tremendous efforts, Wolves could not find the net in the fixture.
