Wolves Women put on a dominant display in the FA Women’s National League against Rugby Borough after a 4-0 victory at the SEAH Stadium on Thursday evening
Early strikes from Amber Hughes and Georgia Marshall removed any early nerves for the Old Gold before Charlotte Greengrass added a third from close range, with Abi Loydon later rounding off the scoring with a well-taken goal in the final stages.
The result puts Wolves one point behind Burnley, who sit at the summit of the table in the business end of the season.
Wolves got off to an electric start and found the net twice in the opening ten minutes through Amber Hughes and Georgia Marshall.
After the two quick fire strikes stunned Rugby, the visitors looked to create a response through Sofia Mallon when she stung the palms of Alex Brooks moments later.
The determination was clear to see from McNamara’s side and the constant intense pressure suffocated Rugby from advancing forward and ended up being vital for Wolves’ third goal.
Hughes’ pressure from Rugby’s goal kick enabled her to win the ball in a dangerous area and the forward’s pass was perfect for Greengrass to slot in Wolves’ third on the 24th minute.

Wolves’ relentless intent continued after the interval and created further opportunities through Chloe Williams on the left side.
Dan McNamara’s side showed more solid defensive structure in the second half while the visitors looked to reduce the deficit with Tammi George and Becky Anderson winning a vast number of duels in midfield.
Wolves rounded off their display in style, the defensive commitment from Abbie Jenner cleared Rugby’s effort off the line and created a breakaway for the hosts.
After a few slick passes between Beth Roberts and Katie Johnson, Loydon side footed her effort past Poppy Soper to extend Wolves’ lead.
