Recently formed rivalries renew in WSL 2 on Friday night as Wolves welcome Burnley to the SEAH Stadium just months after they pipped the Old Gold to the third tier title.
Following a season long battle which saw Burnley take the title and Wolves promoted via the play-off, the two sides meet just three games into their first ever respective Women's Super League 2 campaigns with Wolves looking to carry momentum from Sunday's 3-1 win over Sheffield United.
The Opposition
An opponent who need no introduction following last season's shootout for the title, Burnley have, like Wolves, undergone a summer of transformation in preparation for WSL 2 football. There has been a change in the dugout as American coach Jackie Bachteler, who has an impressive CV across the women's game, has taken the reigns from Ross Wallace as Head Coach.
Summer signings include prolific striker and Lionesses veteran Rachel Williams who signed from Leicester, former Chelsea defender Deanna Cooper and ex-Birmingham City midfielder Christie Harrison-Murray who has been named captain for the 2026/27 season. Former Manchester United striker Leah Galton could also be set for a debut after her signing on Wednesday.

They opened their campaign with a goalless draw at fellow newly promoted side Watford, before a late defeat to highly fancied Sunderland on Sunday meant they registered their first league defeat since a 3-1 loss at Rugby Borough in April 2025.
Last Time Out
Wolves picked up their first ever win in Barclays WSL 2, defeating Sheffield United 3-1. Amber Hughes scored the Old Gold's first ever goal at this level with a stunner before Amy Sims' equally impressive finish and Yana Daniëls late goal added gloss to the victory.

Match Day Activities
Just like Sunday, Win's Bar will be open before kick-off for pre-match refreshments as well as the new Wolves Women activity sheets.
The club shop will be open inside the West Stand concourse from 6.30pm up until the end of half-time!

Remembering Matt Beard
One year on from the passing of Matt Beard, the football community will come together to pay their respects to the former Liverpool and Burnley manager. A friend and former colleague of our Head of Women's Football Russ Fraser and coach of a number of our current squad, we are asking our supporters to join in a 13th minute applause in his memory. 13 represents 2013, the year Beard won the WSL title with Liverpool and was named league manager of the year.
