Matt Doherty is now amidst his second spell with Wolves, having previously made more than 300 appearances across a ten-year period at the club.
The Irishman departed Molineux in 2020, following a decade in which he won two promotions in old gold, and then represented Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League and La Liga side Atletico Madrid, before returning to Wolverhampton in July 2023.
The defender first joined Wolves in 2010, after impressing for Bohemians against Mick McCarthy’s side, and found his feet in Kenny Jackett’s young Old Gold team, which began the club’s revival by winning League One.
Having established himself in the Championship, winning the 2016 Player of the Season award, Doherty was transformed into a wing-back under Nuno Espirito Santo, contributing in both boxes as he reached the top flight for the second time.
Doherty’s second Premier League appearance came seven years after his first, and he scored eight goals and provided ten assists as Wolves reached an FA Cup semi-final and qualified for European football.
After memorable winners at Crystal Palace and Newcastle United, the defender continued in the same vein the next year, where he turned out 50 times and was once again integral to a top seven finish and journey to the last eight of the Europa League.
Doherty departed that summer as a member of the 300 Club, but after three years away in London and Madrid, he returned in July 2023 on a three-year deal, before featuring regularly, either from the start or off the bench across 2023/24.

Matt Doherty has played more than 40 times for Republic of Ireland, having made his debut as a substitute for Seamus Coleman in March 2018.
Played on the left or further forward at times for his country, Doherty has been a regular in the squad since, scoring his first international goal against Denmark in November 2019.
Now an experienced head in the Ireland set up, Doherty captained his country for the first time in March 2023, but Ireland have failed to reach a major tournament during his time in the senior group.
