Toti grabbed his opportunity at Wolves with both hands in January 2022 and has since become a regular in the Old Gold’s Premier League defence.
The centre-back – who only started his football journey as a 15-year-old following a childhood playing rugby and athletics – had joined Wolves 18 months earlier, after signing from Estoril in the summer of 2020, but was immediately loaned out to Grasshoppers, where he caught the eye.
During his first campaign on loan in Switzerland, Toti helped the club to the Swiss Challenge League title and promotion to the top tier. Then, one level higher, he continued to impress, missing just two games and scoring a header in a 3-1 victory over Lausanne-Sport in August 2021.
During the Swiss Super League's winter break in January 2022, Toti returned to Molineux for the first time since joining Wolves and went straight into the side for his Premier League debut, producing an impressive defensive performance in a 3-1 win over Southampton.
That appearance against the Saints was one of five Toti made during the second half of the campaign, but he was soon to have a bigger impact in gold and black. After proving his worth as a left-back as Wolves fought against the drop in 2023, he became key to Gary O’Neil’s defence during the following season.
After starting the 2023/24 campaign on the bench, a switch to a back five with Toti playing as a left centre-back, while also holding the ability to cover as a left-back in a four, saw the defender make the position his own.
