Wolves 1 (S Bueno 54) Sunderland 1 (Mukiele 17)
Wolves added a point to their Premier League tally after an improved second-half performance earned the Old Gold a draw at home to 10-man Sunderland.
Nordi Mukiele’s header inside 20 minutes sent the Black Cats ahead, before Dan Ballard’s dismissal for violent conduct seven minutes later shifted the momentum of the contest.
Rob Edwards’ side showed greater impetus after the break, with Santiago Bueno equalising from a corner 10 minutes into the second half. Despite creating chances, Wolves ultimately lacked the cutting edge, forcing the Old Gold to settle for just a single point in their penultimate home game of the season.
The opening 15 minutes were tight, with neither side finding their rhythm early on. Brian Brobbey was presented with the first chance of the afternoon, but an important intervention from Toti Gomes sent his effort looping over the crossbar.
However, from the resulting corner, the visitors broke the deadlock. Granit Xhaka delivered an inswinging delivery, finding Mukiele, who rose highest and glanced into the far corner.
Moments later, fortunes swung in Wolves’ favour when VAR checked an incident in the middle of the pitch. After a lengthy review, Ballard was shown a red card for pulling Tolu Arokodare’s hair.
Despite being a player down, Sunderland continued to find joy in the final third. Chemsdine Talbi found space on the edge of the area and struck at goal, but his tame effort never troubled Daniel Bentley.
Wolves struggled to create clear chances in response, despite their pressure never really wavering. Arokodare’s header straight at Robin Roefs, just shy of the 40th minute mark, was the closest the Old Gold came to finding the net before the interval.

The hosts emerged from the break with greater intent, creating two opportunities within five minutes of the restart. First, Yerson Mosquera flashed a header wide of the post, before Adam Armstrong forced Roefs into action with a low-driven strike.
The Sunderland rearguard eventually cracked after 54 minutes, when Santiago Bueno beat his marker from a corner and expertly guided his header beyond Roefs and into the side netting.
Edwards’ side continued to make the most of the extra player, dominating possession for large spells of the second half, but their cutting edge remained blunt.
With the final stages approaching, the game became increasingly transitional. Mateus Mane was presented with a chance and, on his weaker left foot, stung the palms of Roefs, who reacted well to deny the effort.
Moments later, Wilson Isidor looked set to race through at the other end, but a crucial challenge from Toti snuffed out the danger. Xhaka, left unmarked, then fizzed a strike towards goal, only to see it drift wide of the near post.
Wolves continued to push for a winner, committing bodies forward at every opportunity. Armstrong had a golden chance to put the hosts ahead, glancing a header goalwards, but Roefs was equal to it.
The final chance of the afternoon fell to Arokodare in the third minute of stoppage time. Under pressure from a chasing defender, the Nigerian stretched to connect with the ball, but could only watch it sail over the upright.
