Toti apologised to the travelling fans after Wolves suffered their latest disappointing defeat on the road at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
The defender saw the Old Gold concede twice in the opening five minutes at the Amex and admits the game was lost in that moment, with the Seagulls in control for the remainder of the game before adding a third late on.
While admitting it’s been a tough and long season for the players, Toti felt for those who’d travelled to support the team in Suffolk when reflecting post-match.
On feeling sorry for the fans
“It's been a long season. It's been very tough. We wanted to have a good finish. It's always important to finish well, we know we have two more games, one at home, and then we go away, and we need to do it for our fans, not just for the players. We could see it on Saturday, they’d been travelling hours and hours just to come and support us. We always play for them as well and I’m sorry, of course, for the travelling fans, coming here and seeing the result that happened.”
On a difficult afternoon
“It was a very tough start. We knew that they're a strong team, and they were going to enter the game very hard. Those first minutes cost us the game. Coming into the game and suffering those two goals very early was definitely not what we wanted. It’s happened before in previous games, we tried to fix it, but it’s definitely not how we wanted to start the game. It definitely cost us a lot through the rest of the game.
“It's been very tough season, it’s been very long, and it’s not finished. It’s been very tough mentally on all the players, we've been trying to stay strong and help each other, and at the training ground we’ve been working and pushing week after week, but in the games it feels like we are never lucky. Everything happens to us, so we’ve been through a lot.”
On Brighton making chances
“It feels like it's a mix of everything, not just our part, but from them as well. They were coming with everything. They scored the first goal and wanted it more than us. We were just defending, we tried to have a lot of men in the area to defend those crosses that they put into the box. The first minutes cost us a lot through the rest of the game.”
On an improved second half
“The gaffer told us that we had to come strong in the second half, otherwise they'll score again and again and again. We knew that we had to go from their weakness and try to play, especially some balls at the back. We tried to do it. We had a few chances, but were not lucky to score. In the end they came and in a very unfortunate moment we suffered another goal against.”
